FORD Du-athalon

The second weekend in September is one of the last races of the year for Matt, Phil, and Steve. We go south to Fredericksburg for a weekend of camping. This year, there were five people (Matt, Phil, Steve, Lesley, and I) and three dogs (Misty, Elroy, and Bones). The dogs almost outnumbered people; they definitely did in attitude.

We arrived at dinnertime on Friday and went about setting up camp quickly before we lost all the light. We hung out by the fire but went to bed relatively early because they had a big race in the morning.

Saturday, the dogs decided at 6:30 it was time to wake up. Bones was jumping around the tent and being a general terror. We got up, I made eggs for breakfast, and the guys got ready to go. Lesley and I decided that we and the dogs would go and cheer them on at the start. We had to stop for coffee and donuts on the way. We were getting our food when the phone rang asking about a pair of shoes that were left at the campsite. We drive all the way back, about a 45 minute trip and raced back to give the missing shoes to their owner.

The guys all did well at the race. Matt took 1st, Steve took 3rd adn Phil took 5th in their division. Then it was back to camp for showers and food. Like always, there was a big fire Saturday night. And out early on Sunday.
